Certified Women Business Enterprise (WBE)
What is a WBE business? The government defines a women-owned business as a private business that is at least
fifty-one percent owed by at least one women. If the company is
public, the fifty-one percent of the stocks must be owned by women.
The benefits are that a women-owned business can apply
for certain private grants and government loans. Most public corporations as well as
local, state, and federal government purchasing agencies have programs for allotting a
certain percentage of business to women-owned companies.
